Singapore celebrates Vesak Day according to the lunar calendar, on 15th of the 4th month. However, Tzu Chi combines Vesak Day, Mother's Day and Global Tzu Chi Day on the 2nd Sunday on May. At the start of May, Tzu Chi started a photo exhibition of Tzu Chi past and history and our activities in Spore / South East Asia. This is followed by the chanting of Lotus Sutra on one Saturday night. The climax of course is 13 May 07, where we celebrate all the 3 important days.
The morning started with all Tzu Chi people bringing back the bamboo banks they received. All the bamboo banks are arranged on stage. Due to the expected large turnout, the Buddha Bathing Ceremony was divided into 2 sessions, the first for all Tzu Chi members and the second for all visitors. That time, I was still not a member; hence I attended the 2nd session.

The turnout was indeed huge. Chairs go all the way from the start to the end of the hall and then proceed up to the mezzanine level. While waiting, I watch Master's teachings that are continuously aired on the various TV around the hall. When the ceremony started, everybody in group of eight: "walked up stage, formed a circle and bowed 90 degrees, hands outward", towards the feet of a status of Buddha. This is called "receiving at the Buddha's Feet". While walking down from the stage, I received my first bamboo bank from, coincidently Guo Xiang SG.
After the end of the whole ceremony, a SG give us a toured of the photo exhibitions of Tzu Chi. I learned more about the various activities Tzu Chi did in Singapore and South East Asia, especially in Indonesia during the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake / Tsunami. The day ended with a vegetarian lunch.
